Redskins draw praise, criticism for handling of name announcement

Monday's announcement from Washington triggered a flurry of reactions. For some, it was a day that was long called for -- happy the moniker that was deemed offensive to many will finally be put to rest. For others, it was a day that long-dreaded, the realization that the name they rooted for since childhood would be no more. The topic dominated airwaves -- from local sports radio stations to ESPN to even non-sports platforms like CNN and Fox News.

Kelvin Harmon tears ACL in blow to Redskins

Washington wideout Kelvin Harmon tore his ACL while training and will miss the upcoming season. Entering his second year, Harmon was expected to compete for the starting spot opposite Terry McLaurin.

Redskins’ name to be retired after 87 years

Dan Snyder said he was fulfilling a lifelong dream in 1999. The 34-year-old billionaire became the owner of the Washington Redskins, the team he grew up rooting for. He loved the team's history. The color scheme. The name. But Mr. Snyder's team announced Monday what he once vowed to never do. The Washington Redskins are changing the team's name.

Redskins officially retire name

The Washington Redskins are officially no longer the Washington Redskins. Washington announced Monday it will retire its name and logo at the conclusion of its review of the name.

Redskins to ‘retire’ team name: report

The Washington Redskins will retire their team name Monday -- putting an end to a moniker that has stood for the last 87 years, a league source confirmed to The Washington Times.

Dan Snyder abandoned Washington Warriors trademark as recently as this year

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, through a holding company, abandoned his pursuit of obtaining a trademark for the term "Warriors" in 2019 and ultimately lost the chance for registering the mark earlier this year -- a move that could complicate the team's potential rebrand as officials conduct a review of its name.

Redskins alumni coming to grips with pending name change

With the Redskins launching a formal review of their name last week, former players are coming to grips that the team is likely headed for change. The team still may don burgundy and gold, but the moniker will be a thing of the past.
