Going full speed late in the first quarter, Bradley Beal slipped, twisted his right ankle and went to the ground. The Wizards, sufferers of multiple layers of misery in the second half of the season, watched Beal limp off the court.

Long and self-critical answers followed Cole's first spring start for the Washington Nationals last Thursday. Cole had walked two, given up four hits and generally wobbled against the New York Mets. His dissatisfaction afterward was evident.

Virginia not concerned about being a No. 2 seed

That Virginia ended up a two seed startled some. Duke, which was the only team to beat Virginia in John Paul Jones Arena this season, remained a No. 1 seed despite also losing in the semifinals of the ACC Conference Tournament.

Drew Storen has surgery on non-throwing hand

Storen is expected to miss a few days of spring training, but be able to return for his regular work and be ready for Opening Day, according to manager Matt Williams.

Anthony Rendon has sprained MCL

The Nationals hoped Anthony Rendon would be ready to go Friday after bruising his knee on a dive in the field Monday. However, Rendon will miss more time because his bruise turned out to be a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Nationals’ infield prospect Wilmer Difo sees, attacks

Difo replaced Anthony Rendon at the top of the Nationals' lineup Wednesday and went 2-for-3. He swung at the first fastball he saw from Cy Young winner David Price for a double, then hit a triple in his next at-bat.

Anthony Rendon scratched from Nationals lineup

Rendon made a diving stop in the field two days ago and came away with bruising and swelling on the interior of the knee. Nationals manager Matt Williams was not concerned about the injury going forward.
