Sean McVay surrounded by veteran Redskins assistants

When Redskins offensive coordinator McVay responds to a question, he sounds like he knew what was going to be asked. Answers are rapid and clear. In more than seven minutes with reporters last week, McVay said "um" once. That pause only popped loose when he was asked about how rookie wide receiver Jamison Crowder was handling domestic violence accusations.

Redskins choose not to comment on Jamison Crowder

Washington Redskins wide receiver Jamison Crowder was escorted off the practice field by an organization representative and did not speak to the media Tuesday after practice. Crowder was accused last week of domestic violence by a woman who posted pictures on his Instagram account, followed by a note that said Crowder had inflicted the bruises and swollen lip in the photos as well as verbally abused the woman.

Full redo mode for Redskins safeties

Shame isn't only available during the regular season. It's an option under the white practice bubble at Redskins Park in the second week of June. Cameras may be off, but teammates and coaches are watching. When 311-pound offensive guard Spencer Long catches a touchdown in front of you during a fake field goal, they notice. Afterward, following a defender's "fat-guy-touchdown" protocol is key. First, deflect as if not understanding the question. Second, turn to the side to stifle laughter. Third, pass the blame.

Maryland Terrapins’ first year in Big Ten a resounding success

Grumbling came in when tradition went out. The University of Maryland was uprooting itself from the Atlantic Coast Conference to join middle America in the Big Ten. No more conference games against Duke or North Carolina. It was off to "The Big House" for Saturday afternoon football and Assembly Hall to face the ghosts of Bobby Knight.

Wizards move to small ball still a work in progress

Converting from power to speed and space took the Wizards about six months. Playoff matchups necessitating and inviting the change finally turned Washington from its thundering frontcourt approach into a team willing to do what so much of the league was doing.

John Wall named to NBA All-Defensive second team

Wall was asked to increase his defense at the start of the season. The Wizards believed he did that, and his efforts received validation Wednesday when he was named to the NBA's all-defensive second team.
