Redskins have better vibe under Gruden, but will results follow?

The first step in changing structure and vibe is swapping out leaders. So, the Redskins started there. Mike Shanahan's stern, veteran approach was replaced by Jay Gruden's more open and self-deprecating style. The Redskins hope that modifies on-field results.

Bashaud Breeland bounces back with strong showing vs. Browns

Little more than a week ago the Redskins rookie cornerback had just been cited for marijuana possession, busted next to a run-down gas station in Richmond, where the Redskins held training camp. Monday night, he was whacking opponents on national television.

RG3 to Johnny Manziel: Be yourself, use fame for good

Griffin said he doesn't know Manziel well. They have crossed paths during promotional Heisman Trophy appearances, but had little interaction otherwise. Griffin is 24 years old and entering his third year in the league. Manziel is 21 and just finished his third week of training camp. Three years in, Griffin realizes how impossible satisfying everyone is.

Washington Wizards’ 2014-15 schedule released

Advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals last season was enough to push the Wizards more onto the national radar. The 2014-15 NBA schedule was released Wednesday night, and the Wizards will be on national television 10 times.

In NFL, pressure to return quickly from injury is intense

Phillip Thomas was a fourth-round pick out of Fresno State in 2013 and expected to evolve into a starter. But he lost his rookie season because of a Lisfranc injury that needed surgery. He made it through OTAs this year before injuring his hamstring. "As a coaching staff, we're frustrated because we just don't know if he's reliable and accountable enough yet from an injury standpoint," defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said.
