Jonathan Allen, Brandon Scherff named to Pro Bowl

Soon after Jonathan Allen signed a four-year, $72 million contract in the offseason, the Washington defensive tackle called the deal a relief. The 26-year-old said he could now focus on football, to just "got out there and do what I've always done."

Starter Taylor Heinicke and backup Kyle Allen did not clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocols in time for Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed. ‘A booming industry’: Jordan Reed’s eager jump into cannabis

These days, Reed, having retired earlier this year, no longer plays in the NFL. Instead, the 31-year-old is among the many former athletes who have jumped into the multi-billion dollar business of marijuana. As his former team prepares to face the Denver Broncos in Colorado on Sunday, Reed now owns shares in a grow house, a dispensary and a processor in the same state.

Virus leaves Washington depleted ahead of Eagles showdown

Ron Rivera could only guess how his team's virus outbreak started, but guessing would only do so much. With days until Sunday's pivotal matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington faces this reality: 18 of the team's players are now on the league's COVID-19 list, after another eight were placed on the list Wednesday.

Beal’s slow start threatens to turn into an inexplicable lost year

This season, the unguardable, unstoppable Beal looks decidedly mortal. The double teams, traps and blitzes that defenses throw at him nightly seem to be taking a toll on the Wizards' leader. His scoring average is down nearly nine points from last season -- dropping to 22.4 from 31.3 per game. That's a startling drop-off for a player who finished second in scoring last year.

Washington’s pushing ‘next man up’ theory to limit

Washington's troubles extend beyond injuries. The team is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak -- on Monday, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen was one of four players who were placed on the league's COVID-19 reserve list.
