How should Commanders be shortened? Commies? Wright weighs in

Nicknames are commonplace in sports. Just look at the District. The Wizards are the Wiz. The Capitals are the Caps. The Nationals are the Nats. The Redskins were the Skins. The Washington Football Team was the WFT. How the heck do you shorten Commanders?

A few bumps on first day of the new Commanders era

A steady stream of leaks drained much of the drama from Wednesday's event -- even owner Dan Snyder joked that the new name was the worst-kept secret in town -- and the "Commanders" moniker itself was greeted by many fans with a shrug and a vague hope that, eventually, the nickname would grow on them.

Dinwiddie’s leadership not ‘necessarily welcomed’ as Wizards continue free fall

Months after arriving via sign-and-trade from the Brooklyn Nets, Dinwiddie is still trying to fit in with the Wizards. As the 28-year-old point guard has discovered -- and his answer only further indicated -- that transition has been anything but smooth. Not only has Dinwiddie had to adjust quite a bit on the floor, but he's also had to adjust to the pecking order of the Wizards' locker room.

In 1991, the Redskins went 14-2, sported a top-rated offense and defense and were so dominant that they never trailed in a playoff game. The Burgundy and Gold outscored teams by a total of 261 points, the NFL's third-highest point differential in the Super Bowl era (1966).

Wizards approaching trade deadline in crisis after historic collapse: ‘Something’s got to change’

Every Wizard had their own way to process Tuesday's unfathomable 116-115 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers -- a loss that saw Washington blow a 35-point lead, marking the second-largest collapse in the NBA's play-by-play era (1996-97). With two weeks until the NBA's trade deadline on Feb. 10, the Wizards are far removed from the hot 10-3 start that caught the league by surprise

Russell’s toughest fights during title reign have been outside the ring

Gary Russell Jr. began training camp two months ago with an unusual setup. His longtime trainer -- his father, Gary Sr. -- had been in and out of the hospital after getting his foot amputated due to complications from diabetes. The health problems meant Sr. often couldn't physically be in the gym.
