FILE - In this Friday, July 26, 2019, file photo, Washington Redskins running backs Derrius Guice (29) and Adrian Peterson (26) run drills during the NFL football training camp in Richmond, Va. Adrian Peterson told Derrius Guice to grab some ice cubes and wrap them around his surgically repaired left knee. Guice chuckled a bit. “You're really old school,” Guice said. “We got all this Cryotherapy and stuff, and you're talking about bags of ice.” Old school, meet new school in the Redskins backfield headlined by a 34-year-old climbing the all-time rushing list and a 22-year-old itching to make his NFL debut 13 months after a torn ACL. Adrian Peterson on Derrius Guice’s return: ‘It’s going to be exciting’

As Adrian Peterson walked off the practice field Wednesday, the Redskins running back struck a conversation with Derrius Guice. The two discussed the possibilities -- how now, with Guice returning from a torn meniscus, they won't have to worry about the run game when one of them is standing on the sidelines.

Colin Kaepernick’s workout drawing criticism as ‘publicity stunt’

With Colin Kaepernick set to work out for NFL teams on Saturday, a number of the free agent quarterback's supporters have criticized the NFL, blasting the league for setting up, in their view, a "publicity stunt" rather than a legitimate opportunity to get back into the league.

Dwayne Haskins ‘comfortable’ in Washington Redskins offense

After being named the Washington Redskins' quarterback for the rest of the season earlier this week, Dwayne Haskins said Wednesday he was very excited about the opportunity, but added there's "more work to be done" in order to become the passer he envisions moving forward.

Redskins in running for franchise’s worst season ever

Heading into Sunday, the Redskins are just 1-8 with a minus-111 point differential -- the third-worst rate in the league. Washington ranks 29th and 24th in offensive and defensive efficiency, according to Football Outsiders. FedEx Field, for another year, has been invaded by opposing fans. Through nine games, the Redskins haven't given their fan base a lot to cheer for.

Jason Garrett under fire for Cowboys’ late-game choices

After a 28-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett was heavily criticized for his team's late-game decision making, choosing to run the ball with Ezekiel Elliott inside the red zone instead of riding Dak Prescott's hot hand.

Rui Hachimura finding ‘comfort zone’ with an unpopular shot

If there has been a prevailing consensus in basketball this decade, it's that the mid-range shot is now understood to be one of the least efficient shots a player can take. The influence of analytics has driven this point home, and NBA teams took a record number of 3-pointers last season.

Wizards searching for right balance on how to develop younger players

Coach Scott Brooks said Thursday he'll be making a change to the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, sending 19-year-old small forward Issac Bonga to the bench. While Brooks did not disclose who will take Bonga's place, the logical options are either 2018 first-rounder Troy Brown or Miles, who is averaging 21 1/2 minutes in two games this season.

Isaiah Thomas overcomes ‘dark days’ to make first Wizards start

Isaiah Thomas just wanted the opportunity. The last two years had not gone his way -- sidelined first by a debilitating hip injury, then unable to crack the rotation on a contending playoff team. The two-time All-Star point guard believed he still was "one of the best basketball players in the world," but realized he needed a chance to prove it.
