Jakub Vrana’s ‘tugging war’ with coaching staff leads to trade

Vrana's inclusion in the Capitals' blockbuster trade Monday with the Detroit Red Wings came as a shock to most fans. But general manager Brian MacLellan said Vrana's role -- or more specifically, the 25-year-old's frustration with that role -- was a factor in shipping him to the Red Wings for winger Anthony Mantha.

Anthony Mantha acquired by Capitals in blockbuster trade

The Capitals traded winger Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik, a first-round pick and a second-round pick to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for winger Anthony Mantha -- a blockbuster deal that signifies Washington's pursuit of another Stanley Cup. The team also acquired winger Michael Raffl from the Philadelphia Flyers for a fifth-round pick, adding forward depth.

Mac McClung set to enter transfer portal again

The former Georgetown star tweeted Sunday he will leave Texas Tech as he prepares for the upcoming NBA draft and also enter the transfer portal. McClung wrote that his priority is preparing for the draft, but will explore his options for other schools.

Washington adds extra road game against Bills with 17th game

The NFL officially approved adding a 17th game for next season on Tuesday at the league's annual owners meetings. For the Washington Football Team, that means having to face another quality opponent -- on the road, no less.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could be what Washington needs at linebacker

Despite an aggressive approach to free agency, linebacker remains one of the team's biggest holes on the roster. Ron Rivera openly wondered last week if Washington had enough depth at the position -- and he's been critical of the spot in the past, as well. Bradley Beal out against Pacers with hip injury

Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal will miss Monday's game against the Indiana Pacers with a right hip contusion. Wizards coach Scott Brooks said Beal is day to day with the injury and will be evaluated again for Tuesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Alysha Clark to miss Mystics season with foot injury

Washington Mystics forward Alysha Clark will miss the upcoming season with a right foot injury -- a major blow to a Mystics team with championship aspirations. Coach Mike Thibault announced the news Monday that Clark suffered the injury while playing overseas in France.

Wizards get involved in busy day of NBA trade action

Roughly three hours before Thursday's NBA trade deadline, Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal ominously tweeted: "Here we go!!!" The tweet was shared hundreds of times within minutes with those eager for deals anxiously waiting to see if Beal's tweet meant that he could be on the move.
