Mac McClung has entered the transfer portal.
The former Georgetown star tweeted Sunday he will leave Texas Tech as he prepares for the upcoming NBA draft and also enter the transfer portal. McClung wrote that his priority is preparing for the NBA. But the portal gives McClung the chance to switch schools, should he decide to withdraw from the draft process.
“Red Raider Nation, although things have changed, my love and appreciation for you guys remain for the same,” McClung wrote. “Lubbock is a very special place and I thank everyone for letting me be a part of it.
“My main focus now is getting ready for the up-and-coming NBA draft. While going through this process I will be in the transfer portal.”
McClung blindsided Georgetown last year when after exploring entering the 2020 draft, he decided to transfer from the Hoyas. The talented scoring guard settled on Texas Tech — where he made an immediate impact in the Red Raiders’ 18-11 season. McClung was named the Big 12 newcomer of the year as he finished fifth in the conference with 15.7 points per game.
But McClung‘s exit perhaps shouldn’t be taken as a surprise this time around. At the beginning of the month, coach Chris Beard left the program to take the same position at rival Texas. The Raiders have also seen starters Micah Peavy and Kyler Edwards enter the portal.
