Commanders OTAs preview: Five storylines to watch

The next phase of the offseason is underway. The Washington Commanders will take the field Tuesday -- giving coaches the chance to evaluate 11-on-11 play, albeit in a non-contact setting. For coach Ron Rivera, the practice provides a perfect opportunity for the Commanders to further develop their chemistry in order to be ready for the fall.

Brian MacLellan to ‘explore changes’ to Capitals core after another first-round exit

Capitals’ core hits another wall as tough questions emerge

In 2018, Alex Ovechkin celebrated the end of his season by drinking out of the Stanley Cup at the Georgetown Waterfront. Four years later, there was no party in sight Friday as Ovechkin sat to answer questions about whether Washington's veteran core was still capable of winning deep into the playoffs.

Commanders have easiest schedule in 2022

The Commanders are set to have one of the easiest schedules in 2022 as their opponents combined for a league-worst .462 winning percentage last season, according to the NFL. Only the Dallas Cowboys -- also with a .462 strength of schedule -- have it just as easy.

NHL’s uptick in penalties leaves little margin of error for Capitals

A few days ago, coach Peter Laviolette noted that the Capitals weren't getting many power-play opportunities in the playoffs. The whistles to that point in the first-round series with the Florida Panthers had been few and far between. Turns out that Laviolette may have spoken too soon.

Islanders fire Barry Trotz after four seasons

The New York Islanders fired coach Barry Trotz on Monday, parting ways with the former Stanley Cup winner after missing the playoffs in Trotz's fourth season with the team.
