From wolves to pot, states tackle range of issues on fall ballots

They can't vote, but the gray wolves of Michigan's Upper Peninsula will have a direct stake in the outcome of the midterm elections next month. The Michigan battle is one of some 146 initiatives, referenda and other measures on the ballots this midterm season, on issues ranging from abortion, gun rights and gambling to redistricting, the minimum wage and state official salaries.

Washington Nationals postseason a potential windfall for D.C. economy

The Fall Classic could prove a fall windfall for the local economy, with the Washington Nationals potentially playing 10 sold-out playoff dates that could mean tens of millions of dollars in business for the team, its vendors and the local restaurants, bars, parking garages, souvenir stands, ticket scalpers and snack vendors who benefit from the team's success.
