Massage Envy opens Washington, D.C., location in Tenleytown

At long last, Massage Envy has come to the District. Chris Christie’s ending New Jersey tax incentive forced ‘Patti Cake$’ director to film in New York

If it were up to filmmaker Geremy Jasper, the Hillsdale, New Jersey, native would have shot his entire new film, "Patti Cake$," in the Garden State. But thanks -- or no thanks -- to the regime of Gov. Chris Christie having killed the state's tax incentive in 2011, Mr. Jasper was forced, due to budget constraints, to hop the Hudson River."Patti Cake$" begins with Patti working an ill-paying job at a bar. Her mother Barb, who once hoped to be a professional singer, comes into the bar, drunk, to sing karaoke, and insulting her daughter in the process.

Tesla guitarist Frank Hannon discusses recording on the road and biking during tour stops

Time was when Frank Hannon, the leader singer, guitarist and co-founder of Tesla, had to wait until he got into a recording studio to get his song ideas realized. But now, thanks to technology, the 50-year-old musician travels with a portable recorder in his pocket. Perhaps even more surprisingly, Mr. Hannon, who will perform with Tesla at The Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Maryland, Tuesday evening, has something else he always has on hand when the tour bus rolls into a new city.

Rusted Root singer Michael Glabicki says fans bring the band pot on the road, chats new album

Which brings us to Sunday evening, which sees Rusted Root performing at The State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia. MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Wind River’ more an indictment of U.S. Indian policy than murder mystery

The films of Taylor Sheridan present a bleak world of characters clinging to dubious morals to survive in a world that is evil. Mr. Sheridan, who wrote "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water," two outstanding films, now steps behind the camera as writer/director with "Wind River," yet another tale of desolate Western landscapes providing background for damaged humans at war with one another.

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘The Only Living Boy in New York’ a modern Gotham fable

From this oddball beginning comes the new film "The Only Living Boy in New York," a somewhat ungainly title for this excellent movie written by Allen Loeb ("Collateral Beauty") and directed by Marc Webb ("The Amazing Spider-Man") that has more up its sleeve than you will realize, but does not go about it in a sly or condescending way.

‘Brigsby Bear’ creators tout fondness for ‘80s films and VHS culture

What if everything you knew about the world was a well-manufactured lie? Many films before have tackled this premise, be it "The Matrix" or "The Truman Show," but none surely with the darkly comic touch of "Brigsby Bear," in which a 25-year-old named James ("Saturday Night Live" cast member Kyle Mooney) discovers that his parents are not his parents, that the supposed outside world is not in fact infected with a poisonous atmosphere, as he was told -- and that his favorite TV program, "Brigsby Bear," was but a mollifying bit of fiction that his "parents" concocted for decades.
