FILE - In this Oct. 22, 2010, file photo, former Winnfield Police Officer Scott Nugent, center, walks with his attorneys Phillip Terrell, left and George Higgins in the Winn Parish Courthouse in Winnfield, La. Nugent was acquitted by a jury in 2010 of manslaughter in the Taser death of Baron "Scooter" Pikes. The Supreme Court could take its first look at police use of Taser stun guns in a case involving the death of Pikes who was shocked by police eight times after he had been placed in handcuffs. The justices could say as early as Monday, May 19, 2014, whether they will add the case of Pikes to their fall calendar. The court is being asked to review a federal appeals court ruling that dismissed a civil rights lawsuit filed on behalf of Pikes’ young son against the former police officer.
