COLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) - A 58-year-old Nebraska woman has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for killing a family dog that she feared.

The Columbus Telegram reports (https://bit.ly/1jnWCZQ ) Judy Lloyd was sentenced Friday for animal mistreatment.

Prosecutors say Lloyd intentionally ran over the 15-to-20-pound dog last July 23.

Lloyd apologized at sentencing, and she told authorities she worried the dog would attack a child.

Prosecutors say Lloyd took the dog to a rural area and tied it to a wooden pallet before running over the dog several times. She disposed of the body in a drainage canal.
