The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is the primary law enforcement agency servicing 140,024 people within of jurisdiction within Alexandria, VA. The APD has been internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 1986 and was reaccredited in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2004 and 2007. The APD has 320 sworn officers and 138 civilian employees. New officers are trained at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy. On August 25, 2009, Earl L.
