Alex Ovechkin honored at 700 goal ceremony, then scores No. 701

The Washington Capitals celebrated Alex Ovechkin reaching 700 career goals in a ceremony before Tuesday's game against the Winnipeg Jets, which included a video montage of Wayne Gretzky and the other living members of the 700 goals club congratulating the Russian.

Capitals shake up bottom six with Ilya Kovalchuk, trade Christian Djoos

The Capitals acquired Ilya Kovalchuk Sunday on the eve of the trade deadline, and remained active Monday by swapping defenseman Christian Djoos for Anaheim Ducks forward Daniel Sprong in a minor-league trade. For Kovalchuk, the chance to play with longtime friend Alex Ovechkin and the shot at a Stanley Cup make Washington an ideal new home.

Ilya Kovalchuk on Capitals trade: ‘Looking to go all the way’ to Stanley Cup

Ilya Kovalchuk's agent told a Russian sports outlet that the Canadiens gave Kovalchuk a choice to be traded to either the Capitals and the Boston Bruins, two of the best teams in the NHL. Capitals come back to beat Penguins, take sole division lead

The Washington Capitals snapped their season-long four-game losing streak Sunday, and it couldn't have come at a better time -- or against a more ideal opponent. T.J. Oshie scored the go-ahead goal as Washington came back to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins.
