In this Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 photo, Jorma Kaukonen, 77, poses for a photo as his Hot Tuna bandmates do a sound check before a gig at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Long before he wrote and recorded the Jefferson Airplane classic "Embryonic Journey," Kaukonen was on a decades-long journey of his own discovery. It began as a globe-circling embassy brat in the 1950s, continued as a psychedelic rock star in the '60s and shows no signs of slowing as the youthful co-founder Hot Tuna guitarist is still recording and touring. He stops long enough to recount much of it in his recent memoir "Been So Long: My Life & Music." (AP Photo/John Rogers)
