Virginia officials eye Tropical Storm Isaias damage, steady coronavirus rates

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said Wednesday that officials are assessing damage from Tropical Storm Isaias to determine whether the state qualifies for federal assistance, noting that the storm killed a person in Lancaster County, whipped up tornadoes in several areas and caused flooding and power outages.

Tropical Storm Isaias: Flood warnings for DMV area; tornado sighted in Maryland

The National Weather Service on Tuesday morning reported extremely heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Isaias for the District of Columbia and Baltimore with an anticipated 2 to 3 inches per hour, rates that can lead to "potentially life-threatening flash flooding," and a tornado sighting near Leonardtown, Maryland.

Maryland pauses reopening plan, issues travel advisory

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Wednesday a pause in his phased reopening plan, expanded the statewide mask mandate and issued a public health travel advisory for nine states, noting a recent increase in coronavirus hospitalizations.
