Commanders almost traded for Jimmy Garoppolo: report

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that the Commanders were close to finalizing a deal with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo earlier in the offseason, but the signal-caller elected to undergo shoulder surgery -- causing Washington to back out of the trade.

Commanders reduce FedEx Field capacity again

The Washington Commanders are expecting a near sellout for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. But that will be a different number than in previous years.

Eagles fans will be at the stadium to boo, taunt and cheer against Carson Wentz, Washington's quarterback who spent his first five seasons with Philadelphia -- where the signal-caller went from a beloved icon to being so ridiculed that diehards were hardly sad when Wentz's trade request was granted following the 2020 season.

Rivera laments explosive plays, blaming individual mistakes rather than scheme

There were six plays, in particular, that seemed to really bother Commanders coach Ron Rivera from Sunday's 36-27 loss to the Detroit Lions. All six went for more than 20 yards, and half of those went for at least 49. He told reporters Monday that the errors boiled down to individual mistakes, rather than an entire group or scheme.

Commanders’ defense can’t stop Lions in loss

The Commanders gave up 425 yards, 191 of which came on the ground. As a result, Washington fell to 1-1 with a 36-27 loss to the Detroit Lions -- unable to start 2-0 for the 11th straight season.
