Russian helicopter shot down while searching for downed pilot: report

The Free Syrian Army, whom Russian aircraft have been targeting in northern Syria to support the Assad regime, says it has shot down a Russian rescue helicopter while it was searching for the Russian pilots who parachuted from their SU-24 after being hit with a Turkish air to air missile.

L. TODD WOOD: USAF can’t afford F-35, may buy F-15s, F-16s

The U.S. Air Force is having trouble paying for the initial buys for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and may instead purchase F-15, F-16, or F-18 aircraft to provide a stop-gap capability in the near term as the F-35 fleet comes online. The service may buy up to 72 of the older model aircraft.

North Korea proposes talks with its South Korean counterpart to be held on Nov. 26th at the Truce Village facility, Panmunjeom in the DMZ, according to the North's official news agency, KCNA. South Korea has accepted the invitation, affirmed the South Korean Unification Ministry.

Russia is planning to massively increase its artillery and missile capability with the creation of several large units by the year 2021. This development comes after multiple reorganizations of the Russian armed forces in the last several years as Russia continues to expand and modernize its combat capability.

L.TODD WOOD: Putin picks off France as an ally

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin, a master reader of geopolitical tea leaves, just picked off France, one of the largest and most powerful countries in the European Union and a member of NATO, as an ally for Russia in the fight against the Islamic State, and more importantly, Russia's attempt to keep the Assad regime in power. I mean reall, you can't make this stuff up.

Calls grow for U.S. to permanently station troops in Eastern Europe

According to many defense officials, arms control experts, and some members of Congress, Russia violated the terms of the 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act by supporting the armed aggression in East Ukraine. In their eyes, this Russian behavior negates the need for NATO to follow the agreement as well.
