Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, second from left, and some of his attorneys arrive the courthouse Monday, Aug 22, 2016, at Fort Bragg, N.C. Attorneys for Bergdahl are scheduled to argue Tuesday that decision-makers with power over the soldier's prosecution were improperly swayed by negative comments from U.S. Sen. John McCain. (Raul R. Sen. John McCain, the Constitution and Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

It is not that United States Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, should be loved less, but that the Constitution should be loved more that he should be rebuked for declaring that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is "clearly a deserter" who should be punished.

Michael Morell the best the CIA has to offer?

If Mr. Morell is the best the CIA has to offer, the agency should be replaced with a subscription to The New York Times at a savings of approximately $15 billion annually.

Obama’s protocols for deciding whether to kill you

On Aug. 5, President Obama released a declassified May 22, 2013 document euphemistically styled Presidential Policy Guidance. It delineates the secret procedures the president has promised to employ (shielded from outside scrutiny or verification) to determine whether any person on the planet shall live or die based on his say-so alone.

Army generals playing James Madison

Active or retired United States Army generals like David Petraeus advising on political arrangements in foreign lands to promote peace, government legitimacy, and liberty are like dogs walking on his their hind legs. As British sage Samuel Johnson would have said, "It is not done well, but you are surprised to find it done at all."

Myths about wars, presidents, the Constitution

The U.S. Constitution's architects unanimously agreed on the allocation of war powers. They unanimously agreed that only Congress should be entrusted with decisions to initiate war.

Why the 2016 presidential race is unimportant

Whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton captures the White House, we will continue down the path of self-ruination driven by the multi-trillion dollar military-industrial-counterterrorism complex (MICC) that de facto rules the country with the acquiescence of both major parties encouraged by an uninformed and docile public.

Gun proponents seek resurrection of due process

Proponents of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms are invoking constitutional due process to defeat legislation that would prohibit persons on the government's terrorist watch or no-fly lists from purchasing firearms. Due process, however, was crucified on a national security cross long ago.

Obama’s war falsehoods

Nothing is truer than philosopher Samuel Johnson's apercu 258 years ago in The Idler that, "Among the calamities of war may be jointly numbered the diminution of the love of truth, by the falsehoods which interest dictates and credulity encourages."

House Speaker Paul Ryan should resign

House Speaker Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, should resign. He has flouted his constitutional oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. He has surrendered the supreme national security and oversight powers of Congress to President Barack Obama without fighting a single battle.
