The Washington Redskins agreed to a two-year, $3 million deal Tuesday with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Peyton Barber, according to multiple reports.
Barber, 26, was Tampa Bay’s leading rusher in 2018. But he managed just 470 yards last season on 154 carries (3.1 yards per attempt) as he lost his starting job to 2018 second-rounder Ronald Jones.
Barber joins a crowded running back room in Washington where Adrian Peterson, Bryce Love and Derrius Guice figure to be in the rotation. The Redskins also added J.D. McKissic, who projects to be the Redskins’ pass-catching back, earlier in free agency.
Of Barber’s contract, only $600,000 is guaranteed, ESPN reported.
At his best, Barber rushed for 873 yards and five touchdowns in 2018. The Auburn product has been in the NFL for four seasons, first joining the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2016.
