OPINION:
Last month, on Women’s Equality Day, the White House pledged it was committed to closing the gender pay gap.
“Equal pay has been an administration priority since President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law as his first piece of legislation,” the White House said in an August statement. “Policies that ensure fair pay for all Americans and that help businesses to attract the strongest talent can not only narrow the pay gap, but also boost productivity and benefit our economy.”
Still, in Obama’s White House, men earn 16 percent more than the average woman, according to The Washington Post. In 2014, The Post did an article on the White House pay gap titled “Male-female pay gap remains entrenched at White House.” Two years ago that gap was 13 percent, they reported.
So in a span of two years, the pay gap has grown by 3 percentage points, not narrowed.
Furthermore, women within Mr. Obama’s White House have had to think of hokey schemes in order to get their voices heard, The Post reports.
“When President Obama took office, two-thirds of his top aides were men,” the Post reported. “Women complained of having to elbow their way into important meetings. And when they got in, their voices were sometimes ignored.
“So female staffers adopted a meeting strategy they called ’amplification’: When a woman made a key point, other women would repeat it, giving credit to its author. This forced the men in the room to recognize the contribution — and denied them the chance to claim the ideas on their own,” The Post said.
How quaint.
Not only do women get paid less than men in Mr. Obama’s White House, their ideas aren’t heard or credited without them teaming together to fight for their rights.
Seems like the Obama administration has their politically correct rhetoric down, but when it comes to practice they have a long way to go. That’s a national disgrace.
