The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation will join with Walking With Anthony, a spinal cord injury group, for the 4th Annual Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner Monday at The Country Club of Fairfax in Fairfax, Virginia. The event is being held as part of National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.
Walking with Anthony was inspired by Anthony Purcell, a young man who became disabled during a tragic accident in 2010. Once considered incurable, Mr. Purcell can now stand with the help of a walker after several years of physical therapy. The event Monday will benefit his charity.
Former Redskins Linebacker LaVar Arrington and local radio personality Rick “Doc” Walker will join with other current and former Redskins to help raise awareness and support for the foundation’s mission to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. Crystal Dixon, the mother of Donnovan Hill, a California youth football player who died from complications of a routine surgery to help with his spinal injuries, will be honored at the event.
This year’s main beneficiary, referred by former Redskin Mike Bragg, is 17-year-old Archer Senft from Owings Mills, Maryland, who broke his C5 vertebra in his neck in a swimming accident in 2015.
