Actress Ashley Judd said Thursday she has no regrets about her decision to stay out of the heated U.S. Senate race in Kentucky, where Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the chamber’s top Republican, faces a high-stakes re-election fight this fall.
Ms. Judd, a Kentucky native, attended President Obama’s speech Thursday at a Nashville high school and said that, in the end, her instincts told her not to run.
“I’m grateful for that because life is not always so tidy. I didn’t understand why at first because it was a very below-the-neck experience. It was very guttural,” she said. “I didn’t have an explanation at first, but then my life became very clear in terms of my need and desire right now to spend a lot of time with family. I’m spared the second-guessing. It’s a family time right now.”
Mr. McConnell is being challenged by tea party-backed businessman Matt Bevin in the GOP primary. The winner will likely face off against Democrat state Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.
