COVENTRY, Vt. (AP) - Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy cruiser was damaged on Interstate 91 in Vermont when a mailbox attached to a wooden post and a 5-gallon bucket of cement was tossed from an overpass onto the highway.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department says Deputy Tyler Jacobs and his canine partner, were traveling north on the interstate in Coventry on Monday night when the mailbox was thrown. The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2ff7VsX) Jacobs swerved into the passing lane, but was unable to avoid hitting the mailbox.
Jacobs and the dog were uninjured, but the car was damaged. The sheriff’s department later discovered that the mailbox was stolen earlier Monday.
