HARRIS: The first weekend is the best weekend of the NCAA tournament

This is the best weekend of the best event. It started Thursday and goes through Sunday. There's basketball on all day and all night. This is a working weekend and my office number for the next three days is 1-800-LEAVEMEALONE. I'll be working. By working, I mean watching basketball. Lots and lots of basketball.

HARRIS: In NCAA office pools, upsets are fun but tradition wins big

There's a good bit of luck involved with office pools. Going in, you need to accept the fact that the guy next to you who knows nothing about basketball, who picks his teams based on which coaches wear glasses or which school is closer to his Mom's house, has a solid chance of finishing higher than you.

HARRIS: Love him or hate him, DeAngelo Hall not done in NFL

By the time the NFL season starts in September, DeAngelo Hall is likely to be a distant memory. It isn't like the Redskins released a future member of the Ring of Honor when they parted ways with Hall in a salary-cap move.

Denard Span more aware after concussion scare

Two years ago, Span was an on-the-rise member of the Minnesota Twins. He gave a lot of thought to his body and taking care of it. He never gave much thought to his head. His life changed on June 3, 2011.

Alexander Semin attempted nine shots and got four on goal in his return to Washington with the Hurricanes on Tuesday night. (Associated Press)

HARRIS: Alexander Semin is gone, and probably best forgotten

The mercurial Russian was booed pretty much every time he touched the puck. He got four shots on net. He didn't play badly. He didn't play great. He was just kind of there. In short, he was more of a factor before the game than he was during the game.

HARRIS: Capitals need ‘8’ to continue to be great

The NHL season is one-third over already. Through the first portion of the schedule, the Capitals built up some pretty convincing evidence that they were not a good team. In fact, most signs pointed to them being a bad team.

Dan Haren brings reliability, control to young Nationals rotation

Haren, 32, says he isn't coming in with the intent of being anyone's mentor. But that figures to happen anyway, even if he never says a word. With as much experience as the others combined, he can likely help the Nats as much off the mound as he can on it.

HARRIS: Give Wizards props for rebound toward respectability

The Wizards' record, ugly though it may be, is nowhere near as miserable as it was when they were 4-28. They started the season without injured John Wall and Nene, their two best players. Since Wall returned, Washington is 8-7 and has won seven of its past eight home games.
