Top holdout now backs Jordan’s bid for House speaker

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, a Republican who had threatened to cut a deal with Democrats to elect a speaker, announced Monday he'll instead back the lead GOP contender, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio.

House Republicans pick Steve Scalise for speaker

Republicans voted Wednesday to nominate Steve Scalise of Louisiana to serve as House speaker but are not done hashing out a way to ensure he'll get enough support to win the gavel in a vote on the House floor.
