Football is not going away anytime soon, even with restrictions

Super Bowl 51 was unlike any other, featuring a historic collapse and unprecedented comeback. The game capped a topsy-turvy NFL season of lackluster TV ratings, uneven play, inconsistent officiating and the usual assortment of issues involving drugs and domestic violence.

The unseemly side of National Signing Day

The college football season kicked off Wednesday, at least the portion that delivers a fresh set of rankings to devour. Thousands of high school seniors played their role in feeding the machine, sometimes on live TV, by putting pen to paper for the spectacle that is National Signing Day.

‘Play until you puke’ mindset needs to change

Adults in charge of the young men coming up in football must change the 'go-until-you-puke' mentality before youngsters can follow suit. "You ain't dead yet" is hardly the standard we want to instill as the little tykes grow up.

Judging by ballots released by Hall of Fame voters, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens eventually will take their rightful place in Cooperstown. How appropriate. Only Pete Rose's exclusion makes less sense.

Lane Kiffin takes step back at Florida Atlantic to find the right coaching path

Lane Kiffin has run two Power 5 programs, head coach stints at USC and Tennessee. He also has run an NFL team, becoming the youngest head coach in the modern era when Al Davis signed the 31-year-old in 2007. Coaches with those stops on their resume don't land at FAU at this stage of their career.
