Cheryl Wetzstein, a Washington Times staff member since 1985, is manager of special sections in The Washington Times' Advertising and Marketing Department.
Previously, she spent 30 years as a Washington Times news reporter, covering national domestic policy, in addition to being a features writer, environmental and consumer affairs reporter, and assistant business editor.
Beginning in 1994, Mrs. Wetzstein worked exclusively on welfare and family issues such as child support enforcement, abstinence and sex education, child welfare, sexually transmitted diseases, marriage, divorce, cohabiting and gay marriage.
She has won several newspaper awards, including 1977 Cub Reporter of the Year and 1983 Heart of New York award, both from the New York Press Club.

Adultery certainly has been fodder for this year's news cycle. Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer kicked it off with his call-girl scandal. "You're fine" are two of the best words a doctor can say at the end of a visit. The words don't necessarily mean he has fixed what ails us, but they reassure us that at least whatever we have isn't getting worse. The American family gets its temperature taken too, and while it doesn't have a clean bill of health, it recently was pronounced "stable." An obvious question is how long will the stability last?

The court on marriage

On May 15, 2008, a divided California Supreme Court ruled that marriage is a constitutional right for all couples. The court therefore ordered two sections of state marriage law struck down so that marriage would become available to gay couples. Previously, gay couples could only obtain domestic partnership licenses.
