SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A San Francisco Bay Area transit agency has equipped all its train cars with working security cameras.
KTVU reports (https://bit.ly/2tkxe3R ) that each car on Bay Area Rapid Transit trains has four cameras on board.
A good portion of the cameras were either previously broken or fake.
BART Police Chief Carlos Rojas says the camera will be a tool for solving crimes that occur on the BART system and also a deterrent to crime. The cost of the project was $1.4 million.
The cameras come after a deadly shooting of a 19-year-old man on a train where police were not able to retrieve usable video from a camera near the crime.
The cameras will last six to seven years. A new fleet of cars were designed with built-in cameras.
