WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard and local emergency personnel are searching for a swimmer who disappeared off the North Carolina coast.
A statement from the Coast Guard said the command center in Wilmington received a 911 call on Thursday about a 30-year-old man was seen by his wife and friend going under water at Corolla Beach and not resurfacing.
An already-airborne MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City was dispatched to the scene, as well as a 47-foot Medium Life Boat crew from Station Oregon Inlet in Nags Head.
Corolla Ocean Rescue lifeguards and local police joined in the search.
