BOSTON (AP) - Democratic Attorney General Maura Healey is calling on Gov. Charlie Baker and other top Republicans to denounce a local GOP group that mailed a flier accusing a Democratic state representative of “allowing boys to shower in girls locker rooms.”
The mailer from the Marlborough Republican City Committee was a reference to Democratic Rep. Michael Day’s support for a transgender rights bill approved by lawmakers and signed by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker in July.
Healey called the mailer “hateful and disgusting” Friday and said GOP leaders should reject what she called “cowardly, shameful attacks.”
A Baker spokesman told the Boston Globe (https://bit.ly/2ewzVak) the governor doesn’t condone the campaign tactic.
Marlborough committee chairman Paul Ferro told the newspaper that Day should be apologizing to parents for ignoring public safety measures.
