OPINION:
The 2026 midterm elections are less than 80 days away — and the balance of power in both Houses of Congress hangs in the balance.
The biased mainstream media is relying on conventional wisdom by pushing a narrative that Democrats are favored to pick up seats in the Senate and House because that’s what historically occurs in the first midterm of a new presidency.
Unsurprisingly, the liberal media is deliberately missing the big picture because they suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).
Take what’s happening in several critically important races for Senate, for example. Republicans currently hold a 53-to-47 majority in Congress’ upper chamber, so in order for Democrats to gain control they must achieve a net gain of four seats to increase their conference membership to a 51-seat majority.
This is no small task in any election cycle, so candidates and matchups matter a great deal. It is becoming a major concern for left-wing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Senate Democrats because even one GOP pick-up makes capturing the majority that much more difficult.
While the math problem is always of paramount concern, it cannot be viewed in a vacuum. Happening simultaneously is the Democratic Party’s ugly, public flirtation with socialism and communism.
As each day goes by, it’s becoming more and more evident to voters that Democrats have become so radicalized that the far-left agenda they’re pushing is completely outside the mainstream and has no hope of improving the lives of Americans.
In Michigan, radical leftist Abdul El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee for Senate, and his policy positions and statements have turned the election there into a five-alarm fire for Beltway Democrats. The race is listed as a toss-up because Republican nominee Mike Rogers is seen as a good fit for the Wolverine State. He’s also highly electable due to the fact he only lost the 2024 Senate race to Democrat Elissa Slotkin by a small margin in a presidential election year.
Polling indicates that this year’s Michigan Senate seat race is extraordinarily competitive, likely due to Mr. El-Sayed’s inflammatory rhetoric, such as, “When they go low, we don’t go high … we take them to the mud and choke them out.”
Not only does Mr. El-Sayed support the failed model of socialized medicine in the form of Medicare for All, but he wants it to include gender-affirming care.
To make matters worse for Democrats, he appears to be leaning into his far-outside-the-mainstream views rather than reading the tea leaves in purple Michigan by moderating. This is welcome news for the GOP.
The headaches don’t stop in Michigan for the hopelessly radicalized and rudderless Democratic Party. In Minnesota, another Senate race is now in play thanks to left-wing Democratic primary voters choosing unhinged progressive Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan as their nominee over commonsense GOP nominee and first-time candidate Michele Tafoya.
Not only is Ms. Flanagan intertwined with the enormous fraud scandal in Minnesota owing to her status as Gov. Tim Walz’s number two, but she was also more than happy to don a hijab to stand in solidarity with the Muslim Somalian community instead of working to protect taxpayers from millions in waste, fraud and abuse.
The dangerously out-of-touch Ms. Flanagan has also worn a shirt that declared, “Protect Trans Kids” and she has promised to “Rip ICE apart,” referring to her crazed policy toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Democrats’ Senate nominee in Texas also has his share of radical statements and beliefs. State Rep.James Talarico has said that “God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between. God is non-binary” and that “modern science recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes — in fact, there are six.”
Not stopping there, Mr. Talarico is also confused about what the American flag symbolizes (things like independence, unity, freedom and bravery) and has called the flag “a complicated symbol for most of us.”
Every Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate this year — and that extends to races in North Carolina, Ohio, Maine and Alaska — will vote exactly the way that tone-deaf Senate Democrats have been voting for years. That means votes for higher taxes, open borders, unsafe streets, climate extremism, unchecked welfare fraud and blocking commonsense election integrity measures.
Americans voting in the November midterms must take into consideration that Senate Democrats always vote as a political monolith and will continue to do so. There is no room in radical leftist circles for dissension, independence, moderation or compromise. The choice is clear.
