HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The undecided election for mayor of Hagerstown has tightened after the first count of absentee ballots.

The Washington County Board of Elections posted numbers on its website Friday showing former mayor Bob Bruchey leading incumbent David Gysberts (GYZE’-berts) by 58 votes out of nearly 13,000 cast in the nonpartisan race.

Bruchey led by 91 votes before Thursday’s first canvass of absentee ballots.

Elections Director Kaye Robucci says the next step is a canvass Wednesday of 552 provisional ballots cast in the city, plus any additional absentee ballots that have come in since Tuesday’s election.

Wednesday is also the deadline for receipt of absentee ballots, which must be postmarked no later than Election Day. The final count of absentee ballots is set for Nov. 18.
