RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - It may be next week before election results are certified in the North Carolina state auditor’s race as a statewide recount continues.
Counties have been re-tabulating votes this week for auditor because Republican candidate Chuck Stuber asked for a recount after trailing Democratic incumbent Beth Wood by just 6,000 votes. A few counties also have been recounting races for two state House seats and one judicial seat.
State Board of Elections spokesman Pat Gannon said roughly 70 counties had completed their work and more would finish later Thursday. The board’s web page shows no significant change in the auditor’s margin.
The board is still expected Friday to certify results for nearly all races under their purview. But Gannon said the auditor’s race probably won’t be finalized until early next week.
