PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine’s U.S. senators say a bill designed to assist the state’s small and medium-sized manufacturing companies is set to become a law.

Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King are supporters of the bill, called the Manufacturing Extension Partnership Improvement Act.

The senators say the act is designed to expand a federal program that provides manufacturers around the country with access to training and technology to improve efficiency, productivity and profit. Collins is a Republican and King is an independent.

The senators say the bill will improve the manufacturing program’s ability to provide resources to businesses. They say President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill into law soon.
