LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office has closed the investigation into a 2008 house explosion east of Las Cruces without filing any charges.
Authorities said Thursday that the decision was made jointly with the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the county’s Fire Marshal.
The lead investigator on the case says there was insufficient evidence to support any criminal activity and the source of the ignition never was determined.
A couple who owned the house weren’t home at the time of the early-morning blast on Oct. 23, 2008.
They told investigators they were getting ready to sell the home.
A flexible gas line connector behind a clothes dryer was found to be disconnected, allowing gas to enter the home after the service valve was turned on from the propane tank.
