RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Passenger traffic at Richmond International Airport increased nearly 9 percent in December compared to the same month in 2012.

The Capital Region Airport Commission says the airport saw 266,164 passengers in December, up from 244,514 in December 2012.

Passenger traffic for the year increased by nearly 1 percent to about 3 million passengers.

Airport spokesman Troy Bell tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1a3v8H1 ) that December’s increase is due largely to a late Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

Bell expects bad weather in the U.S. to affect January’s passenger numbers. He says 445 flights already have been canceled this month.
