NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Police have charged a Fairhaven man in connection with a fatal shooting in New Bedford earlier this month, but no one has been charged yet with pulling the trigger.
Authorities say Nicholas Gonzalez was held on $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty Tuesday to charges including accessory after the fact to murder and witness intimidation in connection with the slaying of Patrick Alves.
The Standard-Times (https://bit.ly/1fwr7ci ) reports that the 23-year-old Alves was shot multiple times in the early morning hours of Jan. 16.
When he was found his cellphone and ID were missing.
Authorities say Gonzalez stole the cellphone, lied about it and then tried to destroy it by flushing it down his toilet. The phone was recovered.
