LOS ANGELES (AP) - It took fire crews nearly three hours to knock down a stubborn early-morning blaze at the site of a former Los Angeles County car dealership.

KABC-TV reports arriving firefighters rescued two homeless people from the roof of the burning building in Ladera Heights.

The fire was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. and quickly intensified, prompting city fire officials to request assistance from county crews.

Firefighters at first tried to attack the fire from inside but eventually pulled back and took a defensive position from outside.

The flames were knocked down about 5:20 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Arson investigators are on the scene.
