Variety first reported in November 2025 that the stars were returning to the franchise. Universal dated the film in February, when the trade said the actors had closed deals. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who work as Radio Silence, are directing from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. The directors are known for 2019’s “Ready or Not” and for reviving the “Scream” franchise in 2022. Mr. Coggeshall’s credits include “The Family Plan” and “Orphan: First Kill.”

The actors first shared the screen in 1999’s “The Mummy,” which follows a treasure hunter and a librarian who accidentally awaken a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. The film spawned two sequels: 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Mr. Fraser returned for both, while Ms. Weisz did not appear in the third.

Sean Daniel is producing, having worked on earlier spinoffs and reboots, including 2002’s “The Scorpion King” and 2017’s “The Mummy,” Universal’s Tom Cruise-led reboot attempt. Other producers are William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and Clayton Townsend. Mr. Fraser and Jason F. Brown of Hivemind are executive producers.
