Talawa Theatre Company is a Black British theatre company founded in 1986. The core of the company's work is championing reinterpretations of classic plays, developing new writing and directing talent and producing plays from and about the African diaspora and Black British Community. Anthony Ekundayo Lennon, a director for the black-led Talawa Theatre Company in London, said he had "no doubt that I have some African ancestry" after coming under fire for winning an Arts Council England award meant for "theatre practitioners of colour."
