TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Another person involved in a scheme that stole millions of dollars from elderly clients of a senior care company is now headed to state prison.
State authorities say Susan Hamlett received a three-year term Friday. The 57-year-old Egg Harbor Township resident had pleaded guilty in August to conspiring to steal more than $100,000 from a client.
Hamlett was an aide with A Better Choice, an Atlantic County-based firm that offered in-home care and legal financial planning for elderly people. Authorities say the firm stole millions of dollars from its clients between 2003 and 2012.
The firm’s owner, her sister, a social worker and an elder law attorney all pleaded guilty in the scheme. The latter three received prison terms, while the firm’s owner will be sentenced later this month.
