New Mexico prosecutors on Monday, July 13, 2020, amended the complaint against a man who they say opened fire after a fight broke out as protesters tried to tear down a statue of a Spanish conquistador, charging him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after one protester was shot and injured. Bernalillo County District Attorney Raul Torrez said he added the charge because he believed Baca had repeatedly provoked protesters before the shooting. He cited video and witness statements collected as part of an investigation by state police into the June 15 confrontation. (Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office via AP, File)
