Sir Anthony Hopkins, who has won three Oscars among other awards in his 66-year acting career, has released his debut album of original classical piano compositions.
Mr. Hopkins, 88, said he would have pursued a music career if he had the discipline to develop his skills as a young man, saying he lacked technical training and patience with music theory.
The album’s 12 pieces reflect on his life, including “Margam,” about his native Wales, and “Farewell My Love,” dedicated to his wife of 23 years, Stella. The songs serve as a musical companion to his 2025 autobiography, “We Did OK, Kid.” He said the album was also deeply influenced by his father, a baker.
Conductor Gustavo Dudamel, music director of the New York Philharmonic, worked with Mr. Hopkins on the album.
“I write out of sheer joy of being alive, because that’s what it is,” Mr. Hopkins said in an interview with Billboard. “And at the end of it all, we better make the most of it.”
Mr. Hopkins won Academy Awards for best actor in 1991’s “The Silence of the Lambs,” 1993’s “The Remains of the Day” and 2020’2 “The Father.”
