WAUKESHA, Wis. — A West Virginia man accused of stalking a 13-year-old terminally ill Wisconsin girl has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Court records say 30-year-old Shannon Cole Bailey also was ordered to serve two years on extended supervision, submit to a mental health assessment and move out of Wisconsin when he is released.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports a misdemeanor charge of violating a restraining order and two misdemeanor charges of resisting or obstructing an officer were dismissed after Bailey entered an Alford plea of no-contest Sept. 5.

An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but agrees the prosecution has enough evidence to get a conviction.

According to the complaint, Bailey told authorities that he sold all his possessions and moved from West Virginia so he could be with the girl.
