Human Rights Watch, an international rights group, said in a statement released Thursday, June 11, 2020, that Egyptian police raided the homes of two uncles of Egyptian-American activist Mohamed Soltan. On June 1, 32-year-old Soltan, now living in Virginia, filed a lawsuit against el-Beblawi accusing him of targeting him for attempted extrajudicial execution and torture while he was in detention in Cairo between 2013 and 2015. The statement quoted a family member saying that the police had searched the houses thoroughly and asked whether the family had been in touch with Soltan.
