This Feb. 26, 2013 photo shows Mary Shepard, who survived a brutal attack in 2009 by an intruder while working at her church in Anna, Ill., receiving a standing ovation during a concealed carry meeting in Cobden, Ill. Shepard, who fought the state's ban on carrying concealed weapons after she was attacked, now has her permit to have a handgun in public. Shepard sued to have the state's ban thrown out, and her efforts contributed to the concealed carry law passed last July. She argues that had she not been barred from carrying a gun, she could have thwarted the attack. (AP Photo/The Southern, Aaron Eisenhauer)
