Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty, who is behind bars in Haskell, Texas, while awaiting trial on kidnapping and robbery charges, is not happy about the conditions of his jail stay.

Attorneys for the rapper, whose real name is Lontrell Denell Williams Jr., filed court documents on Oct. 15 saying their client is confined to his cell for 23 hours a day while being held at the Rolling Plains Regional Jail.

“He has not been told who or what poses a threat to him, and no one has explained why confining him to his cell 23 hours per day is necessary to address it,” the document says.

Federal prosecutors responded to Mr. Williams’ complaint by saying he has spent 45 hours on video calls since July 1. The government also says he has received 12,342 emails and has access to a tablet offering games, Netflix and music.

Mr. Williams was arrested in April after being accused of kidnapping and robbing rapper Gucci Mane and other victims at gunpoint in Dallas three months earlier. He is being held in jail until his trial in February. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
